Things You'll Need:

* Flashlight and strong lighting
* Vacuum cleaner with a long hose
* Roach spray that contains pyre thrum
* Hot hair dryer
* Roach gel
* Roach bomb for badly infested kitchens

The first step is to empty and clean all of your cabinets in the kitchen. Use air tight food bags to seal all your open pantry food. Do the same in all pantry closets. You can use plastic containers to seal, cover and store your food away from the kitchen.

Next, move your refrigerator off the back of the wall. Take all utensil drawers out of the cabinets. Your goal is to empty the kitchen as much as possible but be careful not to bring roaches into other rooms of your home.

Locate where the roaches are living. Roaches are attracted to heat. What this means is that most times the roaches will be living in the cabinet that is closest to the stove, in the upper corners of the crevices of the cabinet and underneath the crevices of the sink. They will also be behind the refrigerator, living in the motor and in and around the dishwasher.

Next, take your flashlight and while shining it inside the cabinets or any dark cracks or crevices, you should be able to see where the cockroaches are hiding. You can start out by having your hair dryer connected to an extension cord and start blowing the heat of the hair dryer into the cracks in the cabinets and behind the refrigerator. This will irritate the roaches and start forcing them out of their hiding places. If you do not mind using an insecticide, you can follow-up using a pyre thrum based aerosol and treat the cracks and crevices. Be sure to wear a mask if you use the insecticide. Read the label carefully and follow the instructions. The label is the law. Leave the room for 10 to 15 minutes after using the pyre thrum to allow time for it to dissipate.

Now that you have irritated the roaches and forced them out of their hiding places, take your vacuum cleaner and start vacuuming the roaches up as you find them. To kill roaches, you must find where they are hiding. Make sure to inspect all kitchen appliances as roaches can hide anywhere. You must make sure to do a thorough crack and crevice treatment, and then vacuum the entire kitchen thoroughly.

Once you are confident that you have killed and then vacuumed all the live and dead roaches, take the roach gel and apply the gel in the corners where the roaches were living. Roaches do leave feces in the corners and any new roaches will be attracted to the feces. Apply the roach gel in the cracks where the feces is pasted. Any left over roaches will be attracted to the feces and will end up contacting the roach gel. Be sure to apply it sparingly with lots of little placements. Do not use like it caulking; just use little dabs where it is not visible.

You can also set a roach bomb once you have finished the procedure for added protection. Make sure to shut off the pilot light on your stove. Repeat the steps once a week for 3 or 4 weeks if needed.

Tips & Warnings

Throw away the vacuum bag after you are finished.

Wear a mask while doing the procedure.

Use a caulking gun and clear caulk to seal off cracks, crevices or any holes where roaches may harbor.

Read the labels on any insecticides used. The label is the law.

Follow all instructions.
