Bed Bug Checklist

If you are unfortunate to have the dreaded Bed Bug, follow these steps to start your Bed Bug program:

1. Inspect your bed and box spring for live bed bugs, brown or black speckles of bed bug excrement, and blood stains around the mattress and box spring. Inspect all furniture, closets, and around the seams of the carpet.

2. Wash and dry all linens, shams, clothes, curtains and any other bedding on high heat 140 degrees for at least 20 to 30 minutes. It is a known fact that high temperatures kills bed bugs. Seal all washed linens and clothes in plastic bags or air tight bins.

3. You want to prepare your bed room like you were moving. You must de-clutter your room. Get rid of anything you do not need. Bed Bugs can live anywhere. You must vacuum your entire room including the bed and box spring on a daily basis. Vacuum your furniture, the seams of the carpet and even vacuum the walls always looking for live bed bugs or the speckles that they leave behind.

4. You need to go buy a bed bug encasement for both the bed and box spring. The bed bug encasement will seal the bed and box spring from allowing new bed bugs to live on the bed or box spring.

Do you think you have BED BUGS?

Do you think you have Bed Bugs? Have you been getting bites at night and not sure what the bites are? Do you see brown or black specks or blood stains on your sheets or mattress. If you answered Yes to any of these questions, you just may have bed Bugs.

What to do.

First thing I would do is check out the mattress and box spring. I would lift the mattress and put it on one side of the room and the box spring on the other side. Check the mattress first. You are looking for the brown or black specks or blood stains. Next check the box spring. To get the best look at the box spring take off the cloth that is on the bottom of the box spring. Check all the corners for live bed bugs.

Since Bed Bugs can live any where in your room but most likely by your bed, you want to inspect nightstands, head boards, bed frames, closets, and around the seams of the carpet. Clean your bedrooms throughly, vacuuming daily your bed and box spring, all furniture, and all around your room if you have carpeting. If you have hard floors you should wash your floors with extremely hot water.

Wash and dry all your cloths, bed sheets, shams, and curtains on high heat at least 140 degrees for 20 to 30 minutes. After washing your belongings you are best off putting them in a sealed plastic bag or air tight bins to not allow any new bugs to be able to get to your washed belongings. If you have books or tapes or anything else that is in your room I highly suggest putting your stuff in plastic bags as well. If you are going to try and save your bed and box spring you need to buy a mattress encasement for both your bed and box spring. The encasement will protect your bed and box spring for any new bed bugs to get inside your bedding.
